Discover the magic and charm that Taganga and the surrounding area offers. Here are some of our recommendations.
The 15,000 hectares of Tayrona Park offer beautiful beaches including Playa Cristal, Piscina, and Arrecife. In the hills of Tayrona is the famous Indian village of Pueblito Chayrama, a small pearl early Tayrona civilization. It can be reached from the village of Calabazo by a two hour walk through shady forest with the chance to see many birds and monkeys.
Ten minutes away, the colonial city of Santa Marta has many tourist attractions, including the oldest cathedral in Latin America, the Gold Museum of the Bank of the Republic, the Parque de los Novios, the Parque Bolivar, and the Museum of the Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino where Simon Bolivar "El Libertador" died.
If you enjoy fishing, take an expedition on Toti. The boat is not big, comfort is not the best, but fishing is almost always amazing.
There are many excellent restaurants in Taganga, including Babaganoush, Pachamama, Mama Zulma. Santa Marta also features many good restaurants, such as El Bistro, Donde Chucho, Hemingway and the romantic and panoramic restaurant Burukuka in El Rodadero.
The local diving club his a team of professionals. They offer PADI and NAUI courses, fun dives, open water dives at night, advanced, rescue, and dive master courses. Mathieu speaks English, French, German and Spanish.
Bahia Concha is the perfect place to relax on a wide white sand beach with no noise and no worries. Our friend Facundo will serve you delicious fish and cold soft drinks.
At the mouth of the river Buritaca you will find the fishing village of las Cabañas de Buritaca. Here you will find a large freshwater lagoon formed behind a sand barrier from the sea. From here you can take a kayak up el Rio Buritaca. If luck is with you, after paddling for about 10 minutes, you will see dozens of monkeys playing in the trees.
Palomino has a beautiful long beach with big waves, especially good for surfers. The quiet village of La Guajira is home to many lovely restaurants. From here, there is direct access to some interesting historical indigenous sites of the Sierra Nevada.
The Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta is the highest coastal mountain formation in the world. The peaks of Simon Bolivar and Cristobal Colon, at 5775m, are located only 42 km from the sea. In the midst of the dense flora of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta park you can visit the Lost City and Teyuna Archaeological Park, the birthplace of the Tayrona civilization. In 1979, UNESCO declared this area a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site.
Perched 650 m above sea level village in the middle of lush tropical vegetation, Minca offers great opportunities for bird watching in the El Dorado reserve. There are about 320 resident and migratory species found here. A 30 minute walk takes you to the cool water of the Pozo Azul waterfalls, where you can have a refreshing dip. You can also visit the Hacienda La Victoria, a coffee plantation where you can buy delicious organic coffee.
In La Guajira you will find truly magical places landscapes. Cabo de la Vela is an arid, desert land bordered by the sea and salt marshes. The region is inhabited mainly by indigenous Wayuu and Punta Gallinas. At the end of La Guajira peninsula is the northernmost part of the continental shelf of South America.

“A fantastic stay in a very special hotel”
We spent five nights in this lovely hotel and did not want to leave. This is a very small hotel with a very large range of comforts and services. We felt more like house guests than clients. Jean Luc and Ana are amazing hosts and make you feel really at home. We liked the house and pool so much we did not take any of the wonderful excursions on offer. We walked to the beach each day, around ten minutes, and snorkelled and swam with Colombian families on holiday. We walked home safely from town each night. No worries. The breakfasts are to die for. They will make whatever you like. We ate here two nights and had lovely meals cooked to a very high standard. The rooms are very comfortable with many special touches. The pool views are outstanding and the pool is big enough for proper lap swimming. Jean Luc speaks fluent English, French, Spanish and German. Ana’s English was good enough to cope with our bad Spanish. We have to add that this hotel all around was outstandingly good value for money as were the good restaurants in Taganga. We just wish we had a hotel like this in England!

My best stay ever, anywhere !
What a wonderful place to be and relax. The owners are super friendly, the views from the pool are amazing. Very comfortable rooms with everything you need ( or not need on holidays ) as MP3 players, DVD, flatscreen... Taganga is a strange place but even me not being a hippie I truely loved it, especially the nearby Playa Grande beach during week days. A lot of restaurants to choose from, beautiful people, dust roads, fresh fish and very nice mountains and secluded bays everywhere. Still a very poor community when walking around. I never had any problem for safety but it is still advised to take good care. The villa Casa Los Cerros has only three rooms so it feels like you have the villa and especially the pool for yourself, what a luxury for a very competitive price ! I paid about 50 Euro a night, superb breakfast included, as much as one likes ! The maid was also very friendly and could do anything for you. The room is extremely clean and indeed a bit rustic of style with wooden and stone elements. Airco worked perfectly. They have four nice dogs also to guard the place. No doubt the best place for me in Colombia, I was totally relaxed when leaving this property, unfortunately it is also for sale and who knows what the future owners will do with it ?

A fantastic place to stay!!
We stayed in Casa Los Cerros for 8 nights and we loved it!! Jean-Luc and Ana (and Sebastian;) are the bests hosts we could wish for. The location is a great base to undertake all kinds of activities. If there’s any advice needed on trips or anything else, they love to give it to you. With only three apartments on the lot, it’s quiet and personal. If you don’t know where to eat, try Jean-Luc’s cooking, we loved that!! (especially the home-made sauce). The room we stayed in was very comfortable and clean. The hammock was the perfect hang out after a day at the beach. The private fridge (filled with cold beers, water and sodas) and the swimming pool (with amazing view) were very refreshing after a days of hard work ;). We really recommend Casa Los Cerros to everybody. Jean Luc, Ana and Sebastian..... Thank you very much, again.

has only three rooms and is probably the best hotel in Taganga, it’s always booked. So when my husband and I lucked out and landed a three day reservation we were thrilled! After a bumpy taxi ride through the dirt streets of Taganga, we were greeted by Ana, our lovely hostess. Our room was clean and comfortable with AC, TV, a safe and a tidy bathroom. Our room was the first room you get to when you enter the property, so climbing the steps to the top and gazing at the beautiful bay below, was a delightful surprise. There is an infinity like pool with sweeping views of the port below and two palapas on either side for reading and relaxing in the shade. Jean Luc, Ana’s husband, is a charming host, keeping your rum cocktails chilled and providing whatever information you may need. Also, the couple’s three year old son Jean Sebastian, will share with you the names of his trucks, provide a little dance for you and make you smile at least 10 times a day. The breakfasts are the best we’ve had at any hotel in Colombia. There’s a fruit plate with papaya, mango, piña and banana, delicious eggs and strong coffee. They will serve you your breakfast wherever you’d like; we enjoyed ours each morning under the palapa. Our stay was so relaxing and comfortable, that it was hard to leave. We may not have fallen in love with Taganga, but we certainly did with Los Cerros and our gracious hosts!!!

Excellent stay - awesome hosts - perfect for little baby
This place is very private and relaxing, the best if you are travelling with a baby but are still enough adventurous to go to Taganga. And the hosts really made the difference, helping, giving advice and countless smiles, sincere open heart type of people, serving excellent food with very reasonable prices. Our daughter Vittoria was only 6 months, and she had the best sleep during the night, the best naps by the pool, and the best time with the dogs and the little Sebastian. Thank you!

Had to extend our stay here
This casa has only 3 bungalows and while we where here they’ve always been fully booked. So we considered ourselfs lucky when it was possible to extend our stay as we liked it here so much. There are plenty of options for excursions or you could just spend the day lying in the hammock, swimming in the refreshing and clean pool, watching the boys playing with the dogs. Jean-Luc and Ana are very friendly and try to help you in every way possible. Jean-Luc is quite a character and Ana is just lovely - both cook wonderful meals and their cocktails are just amazing. It’s hard to leave this place and step outside.

Favourite place we stayed in Colombia
Casa Los Cerros definitely deserves it’s 5 star rating. We travelled along the Caribbean coast of Colombia, and this was our favourite place that we stayed. Jean-Luc and Ana we’re such fantastic hosts and so welcoming and accomodating. Make sure you eat some of Jean-Luc’s cuisine and drink Ana’s cocktails! Overall, Casa Los Cerros was extremely reasonably priced. The bungalows are a decent size, very clean and have all required facilities, including air-con. The food and beverages are also extremely reasonable and of absolute top quality. The view from the pool (which was very big by Colombian standards) was absolutely breath-taking. We tended to chill by the pool or hang in a hammock all day. It’s just a short walk to the main beach area of Taganga. Jean-Luc kindly recommended some places for us to dine and things for us to do in the town, and also booked us a taxi to Tayrona one of the days (a one hour drive). My only complaint was that they had no availability for us to extend our trip by one night! Thank you Ana and Jean-Luc!
